Burgoo festival Utica

Burgoo festival Utica

Enjoy this Columbus Day weekend enjoying the Burgoo festival, which is one of the best known festival of LaSalle County. This is the biggest event in this area and organized by LaSalle County Historical Society.

People start coming in as early as eight in the morning. People come for variety of crafts and different types of boutiques. Many people just come here to walk around and at the end of the visit some special food for dinner. Last year over two hundred food stands and vendors presented their items. This year the number can get bigger.

Of course the biggest of all attractions is the Burgoo stew, which is cooked specially for this event. It is cooked slowly over a wood fire. Each batch normally has hundreds of pounds of beef and one froth the amount of pork. Some make it chunkier so the people who are eating can see what they are having. Sometimes the barley and other spices are taken out and instead black beans, Italian beans and okra is used. Some people don’t want to talk about their secret ingredients. But taste wise, they never fail to entertain. They are always mouth watering. To top it all off, professionals and local talents will entertain through live music.

If you want to see just one festival here in Northern Illinois, Burgoo festival is the one. No other festival in history of Utica is as large or running as long as Burgoo festival.
