Eads Bridge
The Eads Bridge in Illinois was built over the Mississippi River. This bridge is of great interest to the foreign tourists, for it is the first arched steel truss bridge in the world. The first proposal to build such a bridge was shrugged off nonchalantly. Built by James Buchanan Eads, this bridge was completed in 1874. This century old bridge is still in use today. It should be noted here that Eads was a self-taught engineer, who carved a niche for himself with his terrific innovations. Located on the St. Louis Eads Bridge road in East St. Louis in Illinois, this bridge is opened all round the year.
It took seven years to complete this bridge. James Buchanan Eads stands unparalleled as engineer even today, for he thought well ahead of his time. You do not need any fees to cross this bridge. Therefore, you should grab this opportunity of a lifetime to cross over this bridge at least once. However, this site is not accessible to disabled persons. There is an authoritative information available out here. You can also find several places to buy food here. It aught to be remembered that no lodging facilities are available here.
